The Shadow Self

S H A D O W S E L F.  If we are to heal ourselves from unwanted experiences, then we must be willing to deal with the unconscious parts of our mind that create them. These experiences can be reflections of our wounds and the truth we avoid about ourselves.

Unmasking that part of us that is destructive, acts out and sabotages our experiences, relationships and behaviour isn’t pretty. These parts of us that we deem unacceptable, negative or inferior and try to deny and hide away is called our Shadow Self.

What we suppress is desperate to be integrated into ourselves. These feelings, ideas and desires only become harmful when they are repressed - then they can pop up at the least opportune times.

So instead of trying to suppress our shadow, we need to own it and embrace the very things that we are most afraid of facing. Make the unconscious conscious, so that we can understand the lessons; grow, mature, learn and befriend all aspects of ourselves.

Integrating and healing the Shadow Self allows its counterpart, the Radiant Self, to emerge. Instead of creating unwanted experiences, The Radiant Self creates benefits for you and attracts positive situations and experiences.

We become the strongest version of ourselves when we not only own our light but own our shadow - uniting these parts to fulfil our highest potential.
